The Room That Faces the Freeway

Donnymost fits replacement windows across Riverside from a shop on Brockton Ave in the 92503 ZIP. We do the ordinary work, fogged units, tired aluminium sliders, west facing rooms that cook in August. What we have ended up known for is the narrower problem: rooms on the streets near the 91 where the traffic never really stops.

That reputation came the slow way. A homeowner in Arlington asked us to price new windows purely for noise, and the honest answer at the time was that we were not sure a standard dual pane would do much. So we read the test data properly instead of the brochures, fitted one room with unequal pane thicknesses and a laminated inner sheet, and went back to listen. The difference was obvious. The difference on the two identical windows we had fitted the year before, on a different house, was not.

What We Learned From That

Two panes of the same thickness resonate together. They vibrate in step at close to the same frequency, and that frequency happens to sit near the low rumble of tyres on concrete. The glass is doing far less than the price suggests. Break the symmetry, make one pane thicker, laminate one of them, and open the cavity as wide as the frame allows, and the same window becomes a genuinely different product.

The second lesson was that the install does more work than most of the glass. Sound follows air. A window bedded into a stucco opening with an unsealed perimeter leaks noise around the frame no matter what is in the middle of it. We check the perimeter before we talk about glass, because there is no point selling a laminated upgrade into a hole that whistles.

How We Quote

Room by room, not house by house. Sound gets in through the weakest opening, so replacing the windows on the quiet side of a house buys you almost nothing you can hear. We would rather do three windows properly on the freeway side than fifteen indifferently everywhere.

We will also tell you when the answer is not windows. Sometimes it is a hollow front door, or an unsealed attic vent facing the road, or a slider whose interlock has simply come out of adjustment. Those are cheap fixes and we are not going to pretend otherwise to land a bigger job.

The Boring Requirements

Everything we fit meets the current California Title 24 numbers for this climate zone, and we leave the NFRC sticker on so you can read the U-factor and the SHGC yourself. Permits get pulled where they are required. If a homeowners association controls exterior appearance in your tract, we would rather find that out before the truck is loaded.
